I have a jeep cheerokee and it wont start on its on. But when its hooked up to another car with jumper cables it fires right up... is this the battery

Yes it sounds as if your battery does not have enough power to start the car and should be changed out. I would suggest that you purchase a battery memory saver if you are going to change the battery yourself it will save the cars memory when you take out the old battery...
