First possible cause is fuel pressure / fuel pump. Check the pressure at the fuel rail 32-38psi the pump is in the gas tank it might broken pickup line, that's why it "cuts" off going uphill or downhill, after 24 years pumps get weak. Does it run and drive perfect unless its in overdrive?

OK this is sounding like overdrive transmission Shudder, lowers speed and jerks, and chatters. How many miles on the transmission?
