What's the difference between 4-wheel drive and all-wheel drive?

all wheel drive, all 4 wheels have power applied when in gear no matter what, 4 wheel drive, there is the option to have in use all 4 wheels when and only when you want it engaged, and is almost always rear wheel drive until you activate 4x4...
four wheel drive typically doesn't use all 4 wheels to push/pull the vehicle(2 to 3), and you need to shift it in and out- all wheel drive does not need to be shifted in or out, and it does use all 4 wheels to push/pull the vehicle, and most can transfer more power to the front or rear depending on which wheels have the traction, and some can transfer from left to right as well. I hope this helps.
most crv are awd drive if equipped. only 4wd option if selector for 2hi, 4lo, 4hi function.
I was told that the older CRV (mine is an 05) and normally runs front wheel drive, if slippage is detected, then the transfer box engages the rear. Special oil is used in that box and I am told you should get it from Honda.
What kind of gas mileage can you get out to my CR-V 4 wd on demand get?
