While many claim it stands for Compact Recreational Vehicle(and even some dealerships label it this), actually coming from Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokosuka, Japan, I can tell you that the Official Japan Honda CR-V Fact Book states that it stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle", so this is coming from Honda itself. In the UK, it is touted as "Compact Recreational Vehicle".
