lcdean, I recently purchased a 2009 Avalanche LT1 and have not stopped smiling since the dealer gave me the key. I have previously owned pick-up trucks and SUVs, but never a full-size and I really like this purchase. My wife commented after our first 300+ mile trip, for Thanksgiving, that the ride was so smooth that she could read in the car; something she has not been able to do since we met ~19 years ago. | I cannot say as to which model year may or may not be a good year to look into. For me, I needed to stay under 30,000 miles and w/in 3 - 4 years old. The 2009 Avalanche fit those criteria, with ~25,000 miles. The truck feels solid. It's big, but probably no bigger than other full-size quad- cabs. I've already utilized the fold-down mid-gate to carry a 12' board from Home Depot. Granted, it rested on the dash a little bit, but I could fit a 12' x 12" x 2" board in my truck w/o tying it to the roof or anything. | My son, who is 7 1/2 couldn't fit in the back of the 2012 Dodge Ram Crew Cab SLT, but he fits perfectly fine in the Avalanche w/room to spare. I'm 6' / 250 and built like a linebacker / fullback and fit in the back. The Dealer looked at me like I had 3 eyes, but I said, "If I can fit back there, then my son & his friends will fit back there as they get older + my friends and colleagues will fit back there." | Gas mileage isn't bad, hovers around 15 around town. The v4 option kicks in on the highway w/cruise control on. I think we did the 120 mile stretch from Bedford to Pittsburgh, PA w/ only 6 gallons used, so averaged ~20 miles to the gallons in the mountains of Western PA. My 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport topped out around 19 - 21 Highway mileage, so this truck gets as good of mileage as did my v6 SUV. The Avalanche is rated at the same MPG as is the Honda Ridgeline (my #2 option, if the Avalanche wasn't a good fit). I'd have to look and see how that MPG compares to other 2008 - 2010 full-size trucks, but seemed fairly decent for the size of vehicle and power. | I live in the Northern VA area and drive 495 every day. I have NO issues getting into traffic or passing. | Not that I recommend going over the speed limit, but the ride was smooth at 75+ down I-70 in Maryland and was easily keeping up with traffic.

I picked up an 03 last year with 100,000 miles and love it. No problems with it at all. One of my favorite vehicles I've ever owned.

Dodge rams are the most uncomfortable truck in the world. My parents have a 2010 equinox. I'm 6'2" and 380 and I comfortably fit in the back seat. She complained about the suspension on the way to Florida but she also had under 10,000 miles before that trip and nothing was broken in.

Not to mention the fact that the dodge is lucky if it gets anymore than 13 MPG city.

The 2007 had this issue in some GM transfer cases! GOOGLE "PUMP RUB "THEN SELECT MERCHANT AUTOMOTIVE WEBSITE FOR THE MODEL OF TRANSFER CASES AND YEAR OF TRUCKS THEY WERE IN , here is a brief explanation ! If this was useful click my helpful link? The GM transfer cases use a gear pump inside the case that is driven off the mainshaft. The pump forces oil to the planetary as well as the drive sprocket sleeve. Because the pump is driven by the shaft, the housing of the pump must 'float' in the rear housing. There are 5 tabs around the housing that fit into spots in the rear housing to position the pump. Over time, the pump can start to wear on the rear housing. GM installed a spring steel clip in the housing intended to prevent wear but the clip can break and render useless Being that the pump housing is aluminum and is a harder material then the magnesium rear housing, it can wear a hole in the rear housing and cause a very small leak. This leak is high enough in the case that it typically will not leak when vehicle is not moving and therefor not leaving any drops on the ground. Typically the condition is not found until there is transfer case damage from running the case out of fluid.

A friend of mine has a 2007 GMC and it did not have the transfer case mentioned in this website! I would buy his truck in a heartbeat! Best case is to GOOGLE AVALANCHE COMPLAINTS OR PROBLEMS

I purchased an Avalanche(2006) on 11-29 and returned it to the dealer for the 4th time in less than 30 days. I was so disappointed. It's what I wanted but it was taken back three times for various problems and the Transmission went out on Christmas while heading home with family. Uggggg!!

Hi I have a 2008 Avalanche with a 5.3 z71 and I am thinking of a 6.0 is this passable to swap over ?

I purchased a 2007 Avalanche new and still have it. I did have the rear differential rebuilt last year for $500 because it was making a little noise. This truck is awesome. I have had no problems with it and have 140,000 miles on it. Plan on keeping it a couple more years.

I have 2013 Avalanche ltz I know 2013 Cadillac EXT not make anymore that I purchased one premium I telling you Avalanche is the best for you to get one I love avalanche ....

I have a 07 avalanche, and it was such a joy to drive until things went bonkers. All dash lights came on and then went into lockdown (security) mode

I have owned two 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche's Z71 new, and love the design and ride. Never had any problems with these SUV's. Since General Motors stop making the Avalanche, I myself and all the Avalanche fan's club were heart broken. I just bought my third from a Chevrolet Dealership, a 2012 LTZ, I Took it for a test drive and the rest is history. The engineering that designed the Avalanche back in 2002 to 2013 gets 5 stars. If General Motors ever brings this outstanding SUV/Truck back on the market I will be buying my forth General Motors that designed the Avalanche couldn't have given this SUV/Truck the perfect name for this vehicle. ( I LOVE THE AVALANCHE AND SO MANY OTHERS DO TOO!
