Rear axle 2000 chevy blazer

My 2000 chevy blazer had a leak in the rear
axle and it now makes a clunking noise
when your drive foward but not backward
any ideas what it can be

The rear differential that has develop an abnormal noise could be to damaged bearings or another internal fault from a lack of fluid. A complete overhaul of the affected differential is commonly necessary to correct this condition.

Its the spider gears. They cost about $80- $130 (depending on where u go). They are very easy to replace and take about 1-2hrs. Do not procrastinate on repair because if gears completely wear out, the lock pin can bend and damage the rear housing. Then you're stuck with replacing the entire axle or making it turn into a very long repair.
