Is your motor Carb, TPI, or TBI? V8? or V6 (4bl or 2 bl if its a carb)? if it's a carb, you're needles could be getting stuck in the secondaries (if 4bl carb) and u might just need to get some carb cleaner on there... or.. if the carb might need to be rebuilt. if its TPI, then computer could be going out if it starts minor backfires before it dies. or. if its a 5spd manual, transmission is crap, and that could be going out.. or. if its a 4spd auto (700r4) that could be going out (if it continuously revs but doesn't move... try adding trans fluid) let me know if any of that helps, gotta get back to work now.

# 1 never buy a car from friends or family , # 2 an intake manifold does not open or close. #3 it helps to know what year the car is and #4 it helps to know what engine & tranny you have . but it sounds lioke to me you have an automatic tranny & it's slipping real bad. check the tranny fluid & see what color it is. let me know .
