I have a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The timing chain broke. I would like to know if I have done any damage to the motor. Should I just buy a timing chain kit and repair it or what.

How many miles are on your car? I think this is outrageous. People, this is why Asian cars are more popular and I suspect that's why many folks vote with their dollars purchasing Honda, Toyota, and Subaru. I'm sorry for your loss. How could you possibly have confidence in a car like this?

And, yes, I believe you're looking at a $3,000 or more repairs. It's an engine rebuild, the valves are most likely damaged.

There's an old urban myth from years ago, "you'll never have to worry about the timing chain ".....well, this apparently is NOT TRUE! Especially on domestic cars.. have you ever heard of a timing chain breaking on a H6 Subaru?
