Why does my car bog when I hit 45mph

You may have a restriction in your exhaust. The catalytic converter is usually the problem. Over time, they melt down and or carbon plugs them up restricting exhaust flow.

I also read the car had a reputation for having a bad fuel pump... I also just purchased a 1989 Celebrity with 56,000 original miles on it... got it cheap.
