How do i get 1st and 2ndi gear to work on my b&m slap shifter

Drive works but ehen i put it in first
or second its just like putting it in
drive

Check the linkage adjustments first. Make sure all connections are solid and not worn. Make sure there is the proper amount of fluid in the transmission and it is clear and clean.
