Locating a 1967 Malibu

In 1969 I traded a two door hardtop 1967 Malibu (Tahoe Turquoise with black vinyl roof) in Ogden Utha for a 1970 Ford Maverick.  For 41 years I have regreted trading that car and often thought of attempting to find it and buy it back.  Quite possibly the car no longer exist but does anyone have any idea as to how I might go about locating a trail to find that car.  The Utah motor vehicle has told me they cannot help as the information of ownership is protected information in their state

do you have the "vin"? if so you may be able to hire a private investigator, they are able to get past alot of red tape. it's their job to know all the loop holes. I have found lost titles to odd vehicles here and there using that method. just a warning though they cost money and you may not like what you find, my father found out that his pride and joy 71ss chevelle got wrapped around a tree. hope you fare better!
