Clutch worries

Asked by mdwino Aug 23, 2015 at 05:19 PM about the Chevrolet S-10

Question type: General

We own a 1968 Chevrolet Pickup truck C 10 series. Yesterday while downshifting from third to second gear the clutch pedal went to the floor.  No pressure at all, no noise just coasted to a spot and waited for a tow. Any thoughts on what the problem might be?

Start by inspecting the linkage underneath, clutch pedal to the fork, look for problems, if everything looks hooked up take the inspection pan off underneath at the bell housing, see if you see any debris in the pan, if so or if not, have to take trany out to look at throw-out bearing and the fingers on the clutch plate, which is probably the problem if you didn't notice any slipping while driving before hand, if not, take bell housing off and replace it all, clutch disk, pressure plate, throw out bearing. If you do this, wise to get flywheel resurfaced. Always clean all the friction surfaces with a spray solvent that evaporates like the gold can of Break Clean. I had a 1966 Chevy truck.

I have actually thinking about selling this truck, what do you have in mind knowing that it is in the shop getting the clutch problem fixed.? I have owned this truck since 1969 and it has been meticulously maintained. I have records for every service since owning this truck.
