Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer. She's pushing 265,000 miles and haven't had any major issues, til now. My key is in the on position and won't turn either way. It has now powerso I opted to jump it. No success. Took battery cable off and tried again, nothing. under the steering wheel theres a hole to put screwdriver so key releases but didn't solve anything.

Was the battery dead, then you couldn't get the key out?
I parked it with the keys in it, which is normal for me. When I got in the next morning I noticed the key wasn't in right position and no power. I figured I left in accessory position. That's when I tried to jump it. Battery is good though.
Ahh ok, sounds lick a bad ignition switch and or tumbler.
If your key is stuck in the ignition, try turning the steering wheel and at the same time turning the key to remove it. If it is not in the power position, you will not start the vehicle from the key in the ignition. Put on the parking brake, foot on the brake peddle and using some strength, jerk the steering wheel left and right until the key is released.
im having the same problem with the key locked in the ignition BUT our doors are locked and cant get into the truck because our battery is dead! i have the fob and wondering if we can jumpstart it from underneath the truck?? HELP!!!
You will need to get into the cab to get the vehicle started. The steering wheel will at times hold the key in if it is not set right when parking. The key needs to be in the start position to start with a jump start. If you can get inside and release the door locks physically, that is how you get in. Then do the jump start trick. Just like above, turn the wheel left or right at the same time try to twist the key to the release point and pull it out. If you park on an incline with the wheel turned, it may turn back the wheel and hold the key so you have to physically turn the steering wheel to unlock the key.
I have the same problem my key is stuck in the ignition and there is no battery what do i do?
Zachary, read the above entries from me. This happens to me on occasion, and I've always got it out by doing what i wrote.

This happened to my 03 chevy trailblazer LTZ and the battery cables needed to be cleaned.... key loosened and startedup.
Hi this exact thing happened to my 2002 Trailblazer and the battery screw in posts were loose and corroded. Cleaned them put dialectic grease on on them and problem solved. My battery was almost new so who ever installed it must not have cranked the screw posts down enough. Both ground and hot (red) were bad.
The side screw in battery connections really suck. Ever since I bought my 1969 Corvette, it utilized the side screw in connections. Not only was it difficult to connect or disconnect, the threads were made of lead, and it was very soft. If you tighten them to hard, the threads either strip, or the plug connector pulls out. I got a JCPenny's battery in the mid 70s, an had them put the battery in. they tried 7 (seven) batteries before finally getting it to connect properly. I keep looking for a connector to put on the battery before dropping it in behind the driver's seat so a connection would be easier, but can't find such a device.
What happen when the Battery light stays on
Check to make sure the battery is getting a charge. Perhaps it may need to be sinked in with the computer. That I'm not sure if it needs to, but some newer cars it is a must to sink into the compute if the battery is replaced or disconnected. The manual should tell you how to do that, or the service tech at the dealership.
when battery light is on for any car it usually means the alternator is either bad or connection i loose. As far as keys stuck in ignition, i had that issue and found out the fly wheel locks up when the battery dies and causes this. in any even if the cause was wrong, the bottom line is i got it out by rocking the truck back and forth while wiggling the keys. Good luck. Vish.
There's a flat 125 amp fuse in front of the fuse box (under the hood on the driver's side) bolted down to 2 wires. Replace it.
tammie. a WOMAN!!! @ AAA helped me with this lastnite. she told me to try the brake and turn the wheel thing then said a friend had the same truck yeara ago same problem intermittent also. truck wasnt all the way in park!!! she said its some pin in the shifter that wears down when the trucks get old. it worked putting in another gear and moving it back to park again. key turned and came right out. almost missed ozzy concert a few weeks ago cause keys stuck in the ignition. so. glad a WOMAN could answer my problem for me!!!

just do this.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO0p4TjtCjw I have the same issue. Why Don't GM techs know this? OR WHY WONT THEY TELL YOU?
Press the brake peddle at the same time, jerk the steering wheel left to right, while turning the key. It will unstick. I've had this happen a few times. It because of a recall in locking safety mechanism, in the steering column.
Just today my wife's 2007 Trail Blazer wouldn't start and the key would not move back past the on point. The key was not left in the vehicle. Battery was also dead and could not be jumped. I turned the windshield wipers on to serve as an indicator if it got any power. I then with the jump-started still hooked up started rocking the vehicle forward and backwards pretty aggressively. After about ten or so good back and forth, the windshield wipers started moving and I was able to remove the key and jumpstart the battery. Running perfect again

My 2002 trailblazer did the act same thing. Turned out to be a 5 dollar battery fuse connecting the battery to the fuse box.

just picked up my newly purchased 2000 Blazer. New battery, lots of work done. Great find. However, I took her to work last night, came out used the FOB to unlock, inserted key, NOTHING! Tried to remove key, can't. It is stuck in the on position. FOB battery replaced. FOB does not engage. Disconnected Neg. Battery Cable. waited, reconnected, tried again. NOTHING. It's like the whole system is dead. Thoughts? Suggestions?

So my mechanic suggested that I jump the new battery. I did and it started and key did come out once I turned her off. I tried to re-start same problem. Again Jumped to get key out. Battery is new. I will take it to the battery place as I just purchased yesterday and have it checked. If not that, back to mechanic top look for loose connections?

This happened to me with an 09 trailblazer all I did was pop the hood gave the battery a rattle and it fixed the problem.
Looks like it was just loose battery posts gave it a good tighten and it started so O was able to take out my key : )

Well, my situation is a little different. I encountered the same problem that many have described above with a poor battery connection. My 2003 Trailblazer would have power but when I turned the key to start, everything would go black. No power. Before I knew it was a poor battery connection, I decided it was a worn cylinder lock so I replaced it. The new cylinder lock went in but I couldn't turn it at all and the steering wheel would not lock. Then I discovered the bad battery connection and fixed it. But now I cannot turn the key or get the cylinder out of the steering column. How can I remove the cylinder lock if it won't turn to the start position?

ShadetreeSloth-- Try wiggling it, tapping it with a screwdriver handle, if you got the first one out this one should come out.

2008 4WD, 4.2L: A week ago, went to start vehicle. Electrical system entirely dead. I have a small trickle charger, put it on overnight, and the vehicle started normally without any problems. Parked at home a two days ago, went to start last night, electrical system dead again. Put charger on, but still dead. Neighbor brought his truck, applied jumper cables, no joy. He also brought a 100 amp jump starter. We hooked it up, and we got flickering in the cab instruments, but it killed the instruments when I tried to start the engine. I was able to remove the key from the ignition switch that had been stuck there. My trickle charger and my neighbor's jump starter/charger, with the battery out of the vehicle, showed it fully chafged. I removed the battery, hooked up a charger to it, and it showedto be fully charged. I put it back in the truck, and it started without issue. I removed the battery from the vehicle, hooked up a charger to it, and it showed fully charged. I put it back in the truck, and it started without issue. Well, another night, and it started all over again, same problem, system dead. I don't know whether it's a drain or the switch or the battery. I'm just not good at electrical troubleshooting. Now, can anyone give me a sequential troubleshooting menu?
