Can I replace my Dodge Avenger tires (225/55/R17) with Tires from a Dodge Charger size 215/65/R17 - Both 2011

Asked by Dhughes5218 Apr 09, 2013 at 10:55 PM about the Dodge Avenger

Question type: General

My neighbor has 4 rims and tires he took off his Charger that are size 215/65/R17. Only wants 100 bucks, so I'm wondering if I could replace my Avenger tires size 225/55/R17. I need tires anyway so not only would it save me a good bit, but the rims are nicer. What would be a reason not to even if they would fit, if any?

They would work alright. The odometer and speedometer would be off a little. You can put the correct sized tires on the rims when the original tires wear out.

The new tire will be 4.7% larger. When the odometer say you went 100 miles, you actually went 104.7 miles. When your speedometer says 60 mph you are actually traveling at 62.8 miles per hour. Adjust your speed if you like to travel at 5 over the limit like everyone else does.

I don't think you will find it will work. The Avenger is a front wheel drive car and the Charger is a rear wheel drive. The offset on the rim is likely to be very different.
