I have a 2002 Dakota 4x4 3.9L quad cab. Last year it seems i lost power to my heater/ac system. I had to rig it by running a wire from the battery to an on/off switch than to the blower motor itself.

sounds like the climate control electronic module went out- or whatever Dodge calls it- you bypassed it and it worked? then, there it is-

These trucks are notorious for blower motor resistor and the resistor pigtail to go bad ...replaced mine twice ...You can purchase a kit with both at most parts stores .
