In a 1996 Dodge Ram 4x4 automatic transmission can the transmission temperature switch over ride the over drive off switch on the dash

Asked by alldiesel Aug 12, 2015 at 07:42 AM about the Dodge RAM 250

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1996 Dodge Ram 4x4  Automatic transmission replaced shifting hard , did not solve
problem shop then replaced PCM .  start truck trans temp light comes on and so does
over drive off light, pushing the over drive off button changes nothing. neither light
goes off and it won't shift into over drive until you drive about 45 mins at about 55  or
slower and then warning lights go out and the over drive starts working drives fine until
you turn it  off then it repeats the problem all over again . its giving a code of to much
voltage to TCLM  one shop said the temperature sensor was bad in transmission
another shop said replace over drive off switch on dash . any ideas I'm a retired heavy
equipment mechanic but I'm not really up on these computer systems

a transmission shop replaced the transmission and then the PCM then told my son the wiring harness had a short in it. a secound transmission shop said they had to replace the overdrive off switch . My code reader says it is getting a high voltage reading . I think the first transmission shop gave him a JUNKYARD tranny and that the temperature sensor is bad in the transmission
