Is a MIghty Max engine compatible for a 1988 or 1989 Dodge Ram 50 5 speed?

Asked by William Jun 03, 2013 at 07:51 PM about the Dodge RAM 50 Pickup

Question type: General

I have an 1988 and 1989 Ram 50 both are 2.6Ls . My 1988 5 speed has a #4 blown piston.   I'm looking for a replacement engine.  What options do I have? Is the Mitsubishi Mighty Max interchangeable with the Dodge Ram 50 5-speed?
Has anyone had any success getting remanufactured  long block engines from either Jasper or S&J Engines out of Spokane, Wa.? I'd appreciate any feedback I can receive about these questions.  Thanks, William Timothy My E-Mail is: fiero85@bellsouth.net

the dodge ram 50 and the mighty max are the same exact trucks, the only thing changed were the badges, you can replace it with a 2.6, or a 2.0, but the 2.6 was known for being a way better engine than the 2.0, so I would look for a 2.6, and make sure the 2.6 is an 87-89

Wow, careening down memory lane. My first new car was an 87 Mighty Max. That little cuss never knew when to quit. Great little truck.
