Question type: Maintenance & Repair
k so im not big on the dodge family, but i love my truck, but i have blown up my front-driver side axle twice in the last two weeks, i got lucky the first time and had a spare in my back yard, but now im having to buy a new one, i called NAPA (in steamboat springs C.O.)the other day and they would have to order one out of denver, no biggie, i could go get it from there myself, but they said they wanted over 300 bucks for a stock set up, so im wondering if anyone has any ideas, or referances on a good offroad company that will give me what i pay for, cuz im not spending 300 bucks for stock, and with this weather i really need 4wd to be able to go help everybody else get unstuck lol

a possible reason your diffs blew up in the first place is the size of your tires, if your back wheels are bigger than your front they cause excessive wear on your front diff but onto your question, there are numerous companies out there that will do aftermarket axles and there is a list on this site of comapanies that do after market axles http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/
hey thanks for the tip, ive recntly found a company, randy's ring n pinion, my tires are the same all around, my rear gears are 390's and the front is 372's, i know thats not good, but a while ago i had to replace the rear brakes on my truck, could get the driver side drum off the axle, so i just swapped my rear end for another one off my parts dodge, couldnt swap the fronts cuz the parts trruck front end is blown up, and i have no money right now, and i dont want to swap the rear end gears with my old ones cuz right my rear is a positrac or what ever it is now-a-days, and i dont use my 4wd much, only used it a couple times so far this winter, the tires i have are 36" iroks, and i love them, theyr the best snow tireive ever run, and i run from home to denver 2 or 3 times a week, and the roads are always shitty this time of year, but i havent had one with thses tires, so if your looking for good tire i would recommend iroks, but any way it just sucks not having it 4wd when i might need it
no problem, the best thing i can recomend for having those different gears is only use 4wd when there is no grip, like deep snow or mud when the wheels can't get good grip and spin
yeah thats the only time ive ever used it since the axle swap, and no problems yet, hell half the time i dont even need four wheel spin, my tires do awesome whether im out playing or just driving around, i have less problems than anyone with brand new blizzacks lol
Parts truck. Most likely you broke spider gears or a axle shaft. Swap out the parts and axle to have proper gearing. 1tnktoa
