is the dodge ram 2005 engine defective does anyone know?

i have a 2005 dodge ram 1500 and the engine is dead i have abot 100.000 miles in it so i have no warranty i bought this truck use tow months ago and this cant be happening since i bought it i heard a noise coming out of the engine the guy who sold it to me said that it was the timing belt and that i should replace whenever i have time that it was gonna cost me like 150 bucks well now they charging 3500 for a use engine the mecanic said that right now he has an other client with te exact same problem couldnt be that this truck is defective or can it be something else ?

if you have the 4.7 L they have problems . i own a 02 ram and it has a blown motor and it has been 2 and a half years looking for a new motor

Don't know where you're located but when I was at Advance I got a bunch of used engines through Advance Salvage. You might want to check there if you have a store handy. You could also check their website, www.advanceautoparts.com and see if something comes up there. Good Luck!

Yea I actually have a 04 with the 4.7 motor and I had to replace mine last year. I got it from a company in Maryland and they sent me a completely rebuilt one that they claim to have fixed a lot of the factory defects with that motor. It wasnt bad for price either because they ship and pick up the core within so many miles from them for free.

thanks for the help but i live in ont. canada it would cost a fortune to send a motor here.

John, have you checked into reman engines from Performance Improvements or Canadian Tire? Bet either one can help with a Canadian source and take the shipping issue out of the equation.

Actually the hemi has been a good engine overall. Have you resolved the problem as yet?

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 engine I have 180945 on the engine and the timing chain started to slap so I took it apart and found the plastic guides broken I bought a new timing kit and replaced it .It wasn't to hard to replace just follow the instructions in the repair manual

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 5.7 hemi had problem with it stalling at a light so I look at the spark plugs and found them to be bad also the wires have some burn marks on them so replaced all spark plugs and wires cleaned throttle body also replaced the fuel tank module drove it for 50 miles and never had a problem with installing ever again
