Oil pressure gauge starts reading when key is turned on Before engine is started and keeps reading when turned off

Sounds like the sending unit is shorted out. Test by disconnecting the wire connector from the sender and turn the key on again. If guage stays on 0 then you 've found the problem! If it doesn't, gauge is the culprit.
