Reverse is out in my dodge 1500 4x4 truck . All forward gears work fine. I was told that replacing the tail shaft will fix this. Is this true? Is the reverse gear in the tail shaft?

Up until yesterday the oil gauge in my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 would go to 0 - the check gauges lite would come on and pressure would be restored just as quickly as it had been lost.
