Starting and Idle issue.

Asked by HRepo Jun 30, 2016 at 07:05 AM about the Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L with 58k miles. Just recently, my truck will sometimes have trouble turning over. When i do get it started, It will sometimes sputter and even die. When it idles, My head lights flicker along with my dome light (If door is open). I have not tried anything to resolve this issue, Needing some advice here.

Could be a loose or corroded battery terminal or ground. Have the battery load tested to rule out a problem with it. Check the output voltage of the alternator by measuring it at the battery terminals engine running. It should be 13.6 to 14.7 volts. Let us know what you find.

I took the truck up to the dealership, seems to be throwing off a few codes. One of the main issues that came back is my ECM. My extended warranty should cover that, right? lol. Anyways, Its put in the shop.
