Washer fluid not spraying out

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
2015 Ram 1500: Windshield washer tank is full and I can hear the pump
motor when pushing the button (wipers moving as well); but, no washer fluid
sprays out. Also, the windshield solvent light stays on thinking the tank is
empty when it's actually full. Is it a sensor, pump, blockage? Please help
Thanks

I'd check for blockage and make sure the tube/hose from the pump or reservoir is connected and intact, check the pump isn't sucking air from the reservoir instead of fluid.

Washer fluid is full 2018 ram1500 wipers work but can hear. Pump at all
I had same problem, when I pushed the spray button, got a short spurt then dribble. I could hear the pump but sounded louder than normal so assumed it was the pump. Looked up video that showed removing shield on top of radiator, then grill. WRONG!!! Still could not get to tank and pump. Mine is a 2016 Ram 1500, and had to remove from bottom. Long story short, I replaced the pump and still did not work. New pump had a replacement bushing seat that fits into tank, so went to remove old one and pulled out a clogged strainer instead! Strainer had green slime all around the outside, and the tank immediately started to empty once the strainer was removed. That should have been a clue earlier, but didn’t pick up on it. Cleaned strainer, flushed tank while strainer was out, installed strainer, works like new. I did spend $30 on a pump that I didn’t need, but still cheaper than going to a mechanic. Moral to the story is this: You don’t even have to disconnect anything on the pump, just push it out of the tank. If the tank does not immediately dump the contents, check the strainer.
Thanks so much as the strainer was my issue. You saved me hundreds of dollars!
where is the washer fluid button
I have the same problem. Do I need to remove the grill to get the strainer ?
Washer fluid button is on the end of the wiper handle, and, no, you do not need to remove the grill on the 2016 model. It is hard to get to the pump from the bottom but can be done. I think that I had to disconnect a wire or hose to get the pump disconnected from the tank, but it’s been a while.
Hi. I am having the same problem with my 2015 Ram 1500. Pump is working but nothing sprays, so thinking it might be the strainer you mentioned. Is the strainer located in the reservoir or is part of the pump itself? Thanks
You get a new strainer with a new pump, but if you remove the pump, you should be able to pull out the strainer and inspect/clean it. When you pull out the pump, the reservoir should empty if the strainer is clean. It would have gone a lot quicker if the vehicle was in the air on a lift. VERY AWKWARD POSITIONING!
Smithmm74, thanks for the reply. I did take another look this morning and noted a 90 degree plastic connector, on the drivers side behind the battery, with one end leading to the hood. I disconnected the hose from the joint piece and then used my air line to blow out the short line to the hood, and then the line back to the reservoir, watching for the water to bubble up from the pressure. It worked great to clear the obstruction, and the washer jets are back to normal high pressure. I still may need to strip it out for a good cleaning.
Same issue with my 2003 1500 SLT. Replaced the pump, no difference. No strainer to clean. Traced the tube coming from the container and blowed in it to check for clogs. Found out that the Y splitter before the passenger side sprayer was hardly working. Disassembled it and found no debris, but there is a rubber membrane in it that prevents flow. I assume it's a valve to keep the fluid from returning to the container. Removing the membrane allows for perfect flow, but it takes longer to bring the fluid back up from the container every time you want to use the sprayers. I was looking for a replacement part when I found this post. I hope it helps.
I had a similar problem on my 07 Ram 1500 SLT. Fluid would barely trickle out on drivers side, and not at all on passenger side. Replaced the pump, and nope. Finally took everything apart, and removed both sprayer heads.Did the "blow into it via my mouth" test, and Eureka, they were both totally clogged! How and why, who knows. Ran them under hot water in my kitchen sink and cleared them right up!
Follow up on my previous post: Bought part number 55077248AA from the RAM dealer. Kit consisted of the check valve shown above plus the feeder tubes. Didn't need them, but decided to replace the old ones anyway, since I had new ones. What can I say, it worked like a charm. Problem solved, spraying fully restored. My mechanic had been beating around the bush with this issue, not wanting to put in the time to diagnose it properly. Glad I fixed it myself and saved money and aggravation.

I have replaced my pump and no clogs in any of the lines but I'm still not getting anything to spray out or even get the pump to work. Have bought 3 different pumps and still nothing. Am I missing a fuse or possible relay somewhere that could be bad?
I had the same issue with the strainer. It was starving my pump. I disassembled the reservoir and pump, cleaned out the reservoir and installed everything back. Same problem of not spraying hard enough(it would reach about a quarter of the way up the windshield). I looked at this discussion and realized the white piece comes off and has a strainer attached. It was filthy even after hiding out my reservoir. I cleaned the strainer and bingo. Works like a charm. Thank you to the guy who mentioned the strainer!
Can someone tell me where the strainer located on a 2018 Ram 1500?
It should be on the bottom portion of the reservoir. It is literally what the pump seats into. Pull it up and out.
After a few months owning my used 2020. The tubes seem to pop off from the sprayers. Starting to happen more often than it should. Ram needs to look into a solution cause it can be dangerous. Due to the fact you can’t clean the debris from the windshield after getting sprayed by any vehicle in front off you that is driving on a wet road. I plan on taking my truck in soon to have it addressed.
