Not sure abt the C, SL stands for Super Light and K means Kurz, which is German for short, hence the SLK is a shorter version of the SL Roadster. E I think is Executive. Some letter also stand for the type of petrol the car uses, but this is for older models.
thanks for the info...but the C? it is driving me mad!!!
I can't stop thinking about it now! Will have to do some homework, never really thought of it. Hmmm...
The letters are only a referance to the model size of the car. For instance: A, B, C, E, G, ML, R, S... As the letters get bigger, so do the autos they go on. Now the lettewrs after the first, mean something, d=diesel, e= einspritzen (injected), SLK stands for Sport Light Kurtz (short)... And after that, CLS for instance it starts gettting funny. :-)
c-comfort cls-comfort leicht sonderklasse could be??
"K" Kompressor "C" Coupe "S" Sedan "E" Einspritzer (fuel injection) "G" Gelaendewagen (off-road vehicle) or Grand "D" Diesel "T" Turbo or Tourer "S" Sport "L" Leicht (Light weight) "CLS" coupe leicht sport "SL" Sport Leicht ( sport light) "SLK" Sport Light Kompressor Mercedes then started to designate cars by class A, E, C, R, M, G. These Class letters do not appear to have any particular meaning.
I think car maunfactures categories cars for many purposes. First to target different segments in the market and mainly the segment affected by income and the economy as a whole. I beleive C class was made to be affordable for a certain group of people such as workers, S Class was made for CEO and wealthy people. E class combined both to make it affordable for top managers in companies who gets paid well enough but they work for others and their wages are decided by CEO. Of course the different classes could mean more than that but at least this has to do with it. Same thing applies to BMW 3, 5 and 7 series. Check out their prices differences and thier luxury levels. Hammer did the same thing with H1, then came up with an affordable H2 and H3. I hope this makes sense
C stands for Compact
K stands for Kurtz (small)
C must stand for compact!
E550CLS...COUPE LUXURY SHORT
Jonno "C" stands for Coupe (2 door) FYI Jason (K) Kurtz mean short not small By adding new models this changes the original Model plan nomenclature
S stands for "sonderklasse" which means a car in a class of its own.very special.
C = Compact as has been said. NOT 'Coupe', a Coupe is a 2 door and a C class Estate car definitely is not a Coupe...
Others say " C" stand for gravel and "S" for when you driving in a mud road,(is it true)?
C stand for when u driving in gravel and helps when u driving in a mud road u may use gear number 2
The higher up the alphabet the more expensive the class of car. I have an R class that I purchased in 2006 it was 72K. The C class and GLA is the most commonly purchased as they are usually the least expensive in the Merc, lineup, and they are also the loaner cars at my dealership. The service guy explained this to me one day while I was in for a scheduled service. I think the entire system is to provide a wide variety of a "class" of Mercedes to accommodate each individual consumers needs. So, if you want to up stage your neighbors C class purchase (unless it's a CLS) get an S class or AMG then you will really being showing off your bank roll...lol
The C stands for coupe
There are basic model types, and there are variations. The basic model types have now been increasing since the late 90s: A-Class the smallest, with some engine variation?: B-Class, next size up, some engine variation?: C-Class, a standard 4-door which has been going since 1993, with both engine and body variations, and was introduced to compete with all the popular 1.8, 2.0 and 2.2 litre cars out there; also known as a "small E-Class" model: E-Class is the standard mid size Mercedes four door sedan with an injection-engine (E is German for injection), variations from about 2.4 to 4 or 5 litre. ALL E-Class models are what most people regard as the 'standard-sized' Mercedes car. Of course all their cars now have 'electronic injection' engines; introduced in the W124 in 1993. Mercs are said to have been the first to install electro-mechanical injection systems beginning around 1970 I believe; I could be wrong, someone else can research it.. S-Class, the large luxury Mercs, from about 3 litre up to around 6 litre I believe. Mercedes modulate their models with the first 4 letter/figures of the VIN, as in 'W123':- The E-Class models such as W123, a 70s/80s model; W124, 80s, up to 1993 (a particularly beautiful model); then later E-class versions that I am unfamiliar with. Then you have the first 'cut-down' E-Class model which Mercs designated W202, the C-Class models up to 2003, thence W204 C-Class from 2004 up to now. AND of course there are a myriad of more specialised models, CLA, SLK, SLC; and large van-type private and commercial models, etc. It gets really complicated. But that's the gist..
C doesnt stand for coupe idiots Theres a 4 door C- class. “C” Stands for Compact, I seen a C250 race a C300 the other day & the C250 took it like nothing! Im not sure if it was the Amg Styling C250 Sedan.
