Motor won't turn over when hot
I have a 93 Audi 80, V6, 2.6 litre auto. The car starts first time normally, but once the motor gets hot after a 30 minute drive, she won't start. There seems to be a bit of a clicking noise coming from the gear stick. It seems like it is in gear, as all the lights on the dash come on, but the engine does not even budge. Once she has cooled down a bit, she will start again. Please advise.

The gear shift has a safety switch that closes when in Park and Neutral. Move the stick to Neutral and try it. It does not make any sense that it only happens when the engine is warm.
Hi Mark, Thanks for your reply. We tried starting it in neutral, but nothing happened, as I thought it may not be registering that the car was in park. I really have no idea what can be causing this.
Your starter is no good, when it gets hot the brushes and the solenoid expand and no longer move the way they need to. This is why when the car cools down you dont have a problem.
I've been having a similar problem with my 1995 Audi 80 V6, 2.6 litre auto. Today it got to 43 degrees in Sydney and while it started up okay, the aircon, indicators, wipers and lights (except parkling lights) wouldn't turn on with the engine running but would turn on with key in ignition turned to to first position. Doesn't seem to be a problem in cooler weather.
Just adding to the above, that in hot weather my Audi has been starting up okay, but it just has problems restarting after driving for awhile. Turn the key, instrument panel lights up, hear a click of a relay, but engine won't start. Today in the extreme hot weather there also seemed to be a problem with central locking- would on;y lock drivers door not all 4 doors and had to lock them manually. The key seemed to be 'sticky' in the Ignition as well/ Any ideas would be appreciated. Hoping it starts in the morning okay when weather has cooled down.
Found the answer - It's a cracked ignition switch. Part is anywhere between $20 to $50 (107 from Audi stealership). Takes about 30min to 60 min to replace Here are some instructions: http://wiki.audiworld.com/index.php/Ignition_Switch_replacement
Oh wow, I get both the whole "No electronics" and the "stalling after being hot" thing. This makes so much sense! Seeing as everyone here has a B4, I'd just mention mines a 1991 B3 that is doing it. I initially thought it was a temperature sensor (I get no temperature on my dash) - That's broken at the moment too, but so is the ignition apparently!
Yes, I replaced the ignition switch and all the problems have been resolved. When I took out the switch, I found there was a black plastic piece broken off inside the switch. The part cost me $107 plus postage from Audi Parramatta in Australia, but it's a lot less than that in the UK or the US.
