What is the difference between the Pontiact Solstice? I see GXP,Roadster,& Base..thanks J.C.
Raodster = convertible (most are). In 2009 they offered a hardtop coupe. GXP = top of line. Turbo, leather, slightly different front and rear, dual exhaust, leather seats, etc. Base = entry level, could have cloth seats, etc.
Base is the non turbo; aside from being either a convertible roadster or a hardtop coupe (removable T type tops) the most significant difference between the models is turbo or non turbo. The GXP badge means it has a turbo. I have a Base Premium 2008. The Premium deals with the options package, none of which have anything to do with the motor or transmission.
being the owner of a gxp and having done a lot of research on both the base and gxp model, ive concluded the following: the base model had a very low budget AFTER production had been started therefore a lot of quality issues. The GXP is a different department for performance racing under GM's Pontiac and was given more time and money to produce the Solstice GXP. the solstice has better suspension better torque horsepower and has a different body style that can be noticed when the two are side by side. The gxp is lighter and faster and even has a track option within the computer by quickly pressing the traction control twice revealing a pop up on the dash saying "Competitive Mode". the GXP out-does the BASE production in every way. in every Pontiac car that has the track edition.
I drove both the Base and turbo in stick and didnt notice a big diff. Why? The base even had alittle more torque off the line Please comment...
You had to push the traction control button 2 times to get the competition mode,supposedly 30 more horsepower.
I like to shift a sports car myself, not let the automatic shift for me.
