is it a good idea to buy a 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300e?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

this car is in great shape. less than 95K miles. the price seems right at $3,990 but would
like to get that lowered a bit. love the body & the way it drives, but am afraid because it's
so old, so that it would be a silly purchase. i don't need a car for life. I just want one to
last 2-5 years. need all and any advice.

Get a CarFax, make sure it's never been wrecked...all service records would be great if available and if it's been taken care of 95k is not end-of-life for that Mercedes.

It's a Mercedes, 25 years old and parts and service prices are sky high. I would avoid it for that reason.

I think the price is a bit high... so I would probably come in at about 2500 on it AFTER you had a mechanic you trust give it a thorough inspection... at 2k, even if it ends up needing repairs during the 2-5 years you are looking to hold onto it, it will be worth putting a few bucks into it... better to spend $100 with a mechanic now and have them go through it thoroughly vs. buyign it and then finding out you need a new engine a month after you bought it - no matter the price you buy for, even if for just a few hundred, the bill for something like that will crush any value in the vehicle...
