Miles vs year of car

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

HELP!!! Is it better to purchase a later year with higher
mileage (2013 MB ML 350, 98K miles) or a older one with
lower miles (2011 MB ML 350, 61K miles). EACH are
single owner, maintenance records appear on schedule,
no accidents.

Miles tell you only how far the car has traveled. Condition, on the other hand, tells you how it has been treated. One thing I will mention is that the 100k mile service on a Mercedes is not going to be cheap. You may want to keep that in mind. However, it also depends on the price difference. If the newer, higher mileage car is less expensive then it may be the route to take. If the 100k service has already been done, it becomes even more attractive. Only you can decide which is best for you. Are there any features on the new model that you don't see on the old one that make a difference to you? Are they the same color inside and out? Small things will set one apart from the other.

All other things being equal I would go with the low mile car provided the price is right.

As others have said - it is the condition, not necessarily the miles. A well maintained Benz could easily go 200k miles. Whereas a 35k miles Benz could require massive repair bills if it has been abused.
