How do you know when the fuel pump is going bad on a 1990 420 sel

The car is starts fine but when you drive a distance it starts to hesistate as if its running out of gas. the car cuts offs restarts drives alittle ok and returns to the same

It could also be your fuel pressure regulator going bad you might want to have it checked or find a fuel pressure guage to check it if your car is under warranty i would take it to the dealer ship
