Clifton - Ignore that other response! Comparing a Camry to the new Challenger R/T is like comparing a beautiful woman that you are in lust/love with to your mom! It's just not fair. It never was about specifications and numbers, it's how the car makes you feel! This car is pretty, powerful, fast and very cool! Everything about this car will excite you. The sound, the strong feel of everything, the design and the build quality are all top notch. About 5 times every week total strangers will stop me to comment on the car. The one valid point is that the Challenger is a big and heavy car. But with 375 HP it's no dog. The old Challengers would go faster from 0-60, but this one does even faster 100-0 and tops out over 150. It seats 5 comfortably and the Toyota will almost fit in my trunk. Kidding...

yeah and end up crossing the 1/4 mile mark at 14.0 flat or even faster. that new hemi will also give you tire smoking torque with a ton of potential. plus you can still get 25 mpg on the hwy with that hp.

5.9... 0-60?? who the hell is doing the driving ? I have a stock automatic 2010 R/T so far the best 0-60 I have is 5.2sec .I will be purchacing the Diablo Preditor Tuner for 350 bucks this will reprogram the car and I should see #`s under 5- 0-60. Bring me any Toyota Camery and all you will see is my ass !

those numbers are fabricated by mustang enthusiests. the RT 6 speed is roughly in the 5.1 to 5.3 range and the reason its pushing 4000 lbs that fast is because the 379 hp is a little underrated. it runs a 1/4 in the low 13s (13.3) consistantly and if you own one and got down on it, it will not feel like a "camery", believe me.

#1 your car will certainly be faster than a similarly equipped mustang, trust me ive seen it two similarly equipped automatics went at it (to rule out driver error) the challenger had the mustang all the way through also we had chevy diehards driving both cars to rule out driver biasing. #2 be happy with the fact that your car isnt an asshole in the sense of how every one has one. also your car is flat out much better looking and also if a 2011 V6 camry is so fast then how come my 10,000lb ram 3500 is faster than one???

The new 5.0 mustang gt would wax the rt and srt version of this car. You must have seen the old 4.6 in action

LOL...The SRT8 Challenger puts out 470-hp and 470 lb-ft.... 5.0 Mustang, 412-hp and 390 lb.-ft. and weights maybe 200 lbs less than the Challenger. It wouldn't even win let alone "wax" it.......Even the R/T puts out as much torque as the new 5L

17,065

You need to do some more research. You couldn't be more wrong. I hate mustangs but the new 5.0 would put a beat down on the srt. Look it up. Srt vs 5.0 is a much larger weight difference than 200 lbs. Check the performance numbers of the 1/4 mile and other numbers such as the skid pad. Mustang beats it in ALL of the above.

17,065

ill do the research for you actually.... challenger $46k 1/4: 12.9 weight: 4200 braking: 160 skid pad: .88 mustang: $30k 1/4: 12.7 weight: 3600 braking: 153 skid pad: .94 considering the mustang is $15k cheaper this isnt even a comparison. mustang>>>>>>>challenger. you can love the styling of the challenger all you want but performance wise the mustang is the best american muscle car on the market right now. i hate the mustang but its the truth

idk i dont play with cars, generally if it doesnt have a diesel engine i dont touch it haha not being an asshole but i paid 20,xxx for the truck i have listed my 2004.5 ram 3500 diesel, thats including all the upgrades i named and ive laid a pretty mean beat down on what looked to me to be a brand spankin new V8 mustang, to me the newer years blur together and look the same so i dont really know what year it was but i know it was newer than 2005 with a V8 and my truck wieghs 10,000 with 33X12.50s on it and i run about 11.3 1/4mile hahaha but with all respect both cars are nice i just dont like the fact that i see mustangs every day of my life

you would know if it was the new 5.0 gt...its says 5.0 right on the side instead of GT and the rear end is slightly different. and good choice with the cummins. i work in the engineering department for them :D

I agree 100% the new 5.0 Mustang is deff faster than the r/t or the 2010 srt8 as far as the new 392 I am not sure I have not seen a real road test of the 392 and I know the 2008-2010 srt8 was getting 4.2 sec on 0-60 runs I am assuming with the 50 more hp should be a bit better. As for the price yes the Mustang is a way better deal and one hell of a car, but I would stil go with the R/T . I have a 2010 R/T Challenget and over this winter (I live in Fl) I got 4.91 sec 0-60 out of my Auto-stick stock no mods R/T. I do not think in my mind the 10-15K more for the srt is worth getting and extra 1/2 sec. Also in 5 years when it is paid off I can add a supercharger.

11 people found this helpful.
17,065

After looking up the numbers it's only slighty faster (in a straight line) than the new srt. Anything requiring braking and turns though it's a much better car. The challenger has much better styling IMO. Best on the market. It's just so huge that the weight is a killer for it. And a procharger rt is a beast car.

i love it, its my first diesel, but ive always been into diesel engines and i grew up around them in snowgroomers. i almost bought a 7.3 powerstroke but i felt how much of a dog it was compared to the cummins. PS i need a 6.7 cummins VGT turbo and the exhaust manifold i want a VGT on my 5.9 and thats the only way to do it ive already got the standalone controller for it

8,515

So you just did a complete 180 on your argument....you went from the mustang "waxing" all to now more realistically an extremely close race. But I couldn't have been more wrong?

5 people found this helpful.
17,065

the new 5.0 wouldnt wax the srt in the 1.4 mile thats correct. it would be a close race but edge still goes to the stang. too bad that people race on more than just 1.4 mile tracks though. where the mustang makes the srt look terrible. still waxing it. no 180 here. 5.0>>>>>>>>srt. especially for the money.

5 people found this helpful.
8,515

The numbers are so close it will almost always come down to the driver, and the numbers seem to be all over the place... Edmunds has the Challenger at 12.6 and the Mustang at 13.0 in the 1/4. It's not by any means "waxing" I will give you that the mustang is a staggering 800lbs lighter, and much cheaper.

1,080

the drivers @ edmonds need to find a new line of work. They got the Challenger R/T doing 0-60 in 5.9 sec. The 1st time my wife drove our R/T Challenger she did 5.5 sec 0-60 My best is 4.91. Edmonds can suck my ass and they need new "drivers" cause the ones they have need to learn how to drive.

Join a forum and start reading. I'm sure there is a lot of stuff there that can help you out. But there's the simple oviois stuff. Longtubes and catback, cai, and a tune to get the easy power. I believe from what I've heard/read the srt manifolds can be swapped to the 5.7 for some power gain as well. Not sure though so don't quote me. And those things are boats. Find some weight reduction articles and see what you can ditch to help lighten that thing up.

Had a good laugh today, was at the local dragstrip and saw a 2010 challenger get beat by a ford flex with an ecoboost v6! Will post a link to the video.

I thought I heard 14. something on the final run, 1st off the ford flex does 0-60 in a whopping 9 seconds and I saw this one take the R/T off the line, how can that be possible? I`ll tell ya... The person driving the R/T couldnt drive miss daisy and the Flex has some Nitros, cause that is the only way it does the 1/4 in 14 anything. Has somehing other than ecoboost under the hood or in the trunk. I am sure I can find a video of a Pinto beating a Cobra.

You have a point, but unfortunately I personally took the video yesterterday. The Challenger was running low 15's to high 14's all day. The ecoboost Flex v6(twinturbo from factory, no nitrous, 365 hp) was running 14.7's like clockwork, all wheel drive as well.

that is crazy 365 hp in one of those Flex`s... I still will beat it .. hell Edmonds was getting 13.9 from the R/T and they couldnt drive miss daisy either.. Maybe the Challenger driver had 3 fat friends in the car too..lol

Well I bought my 2012 Challenger R/T Jan. 14th and today on my way home from work was the first time I was able to see what my baby would do under pressure. Long story short, the sweet looking yellow Camaro SS with black racing stripes across the trunk and hood was getting harder and harder to see in my rear view mirror as I broke 145mph, didn't eat him up but did take a few good bites before we slowed down and gave each other the "Thumbs Up!" He was a good sport and we both had fun with our toys but he knew as well as I did that I had the faster car.

My dodge challenger hit a 5.2 in 0-60! I had it all stock!!! And now with a k&n headers and a new diablo predator tune I get 4.7 in 0-6 I'm thinking about a supper charger but not to shure yet! But my bro has a comarro ss and over all he is thinking of trading it in to get a challenger.. Just saying !!!!!!!!overall best smooth driving car out there I think if u don't own one I would think on buying one if I was you! It's a car that is worth your money

HA! i love all the Ford people trying to say Fords can beat a HEMI...2012 Srt8 challenger with a THREE HUNDRED NINETY TWO cubic inch block....2012 ford GT with a 305....hilarious

2 people found this helpful.
17,065

CJ...first of all the mustang gt has 302 not a 305 if I remember correctly. Furthermore that Mustang GT has 420 hp. What's the 392 have? 460 hp right? Now go compare the weights of the 2 vehicles.

2,165

false they've had 302's labeled 5.0 liter....but mustangs were never true five liters till 2010 when they became 305's.....if they're stilll 302's then Ford is still just rounding up, as they have with they're horsepower ratings...ive seen brand new gt500's dyno at 525hp max, a few times even lower when i was in auto tech

4 people found this helpful.
2,255

The original 302's were just under 302 cubic inches, the new ones are 302 cubic inches, Chevy has the 305 cubic inch motor. By the way, brand new GT500's dyno at 662 horsepower, do some research before posting. My son has a 2003 Mustang Mach 1 "overrated" by Ford at 305 horsepower. Last weekend at the dragstrip he ran a 12.82, not bad for a measley 305 horsepower. Only mod is a cold air intake and long tube headers.

2 people found this helpful.
2,255

The 302 windsor is not actually 302 cubic inches. Displacement is (pi × r2 × h × cylinders), which becomes (pi × 4 × 3 × 8), thus pi × 96, thus 301.59289 cubic inches. BTW, a 5.0 litre motor can be anything from a 4.95 litre to a 5.05 litre engine depending on how the manufacturer rounds it up, so cubic inches can range from 301.5 to 305 cubic inches and still be called a 5.0 litre.

17,065

Dynos vary from different types. It's not a good judge of power. The strip is. I call bs on the Mach 1 under 13 as well. Those cars are dogs. Fact is the new 302 boss is the best bang for the buck period...ad I'm a GM guy. If you want GM performance the gto is still where it's at with weight and power. Dodge/Chrysler has the best styling of any vehicle. Hands down. But it's the worst performing of the group. All hp but no handling or braking in comparison.

I traded my 2010 Challenger R/T for a 2013 5.0 this April. My first race was a Charger 392 and I beat it by a nose if I had a little more skill with the stick shift I would have easily bEAT THE 392.

Ford bias's at work....and yeah, the 2013 gt500 will go over 550 horse....ive literally done my own 2011 gt500 on a dyno....525hp solid....and my 84 firebird trans am with a chevy 350 ZZ4 in it ( rated 355, 405) THAT has a low 12 second quarter mile....the mach 1 has a 13.5 quarter mile....i dont see a second getting knocked off with cold air.....alll ive been arguing as that u cant beat the efficiency and reliability of a hemi engine at high rpms....take two identical engines, but one with hemi heads and the other with square heads or something, and the hemi will juice more horse out of it at 5-8,000rpms and be happy running all day up at those speeds

2 people found this helpful.
17,065

I'll take GMs cathedral port heads all day. Hemi is a great engine. I had one. Makes great power and it's reliable but IMO the Ls series engine is the best there is and the new 5.0 from ford is badass.

I average 5.3 0-60. My grandma could do 5.9 on my 2012 rt six speed. The complements are never ending. The challenger is the only car that got the retro correct.

boys, boys, boys.....it's a muscle car...it's about attitude not just speed. My 2011 toxic orange R/T is a little slower than a lot of the mustangs....but who cares? Mustangs are cool but they'll never be rare because they're a dime-a-dozen out there. The R/T is and will continue to be classic old-school muscle...yeah mustang is 412 hp...but at what?...10,000 rpm?...try to sustain that and see what happens. Put 500 lbs. of concrete blocks in the trunk of that stang to even things up and I'll leave it at the starting line

And how much gas does your 500 lbs more of bricks with a bigger engine suck? FYI 412hp at 6500 rpm. 18/25 mpg. Challenger 15/24 mpg, hp 376@5150 rpm. A small displacement 5.0 litre motor with 4-valve heads will buzz at 6500 rpm just as long as a hemi headed 350 cubic inch motor will at 5250.

I do almost all highway...100 miles per day...I was getting 26+ when it was stock; getting 28 now with CAI and flow masters.....if it was all just about mileage I wouldn't be in an R/T and you wouldn't be in a Mustang; we'd both be in smart cars and that would truly suck. At the end of the day....what we purchase is a compromise...your mustang turns better 0-60s and 1/4 miles....my R/T turns better top end (mine probably turns more heads).....and don't worry about the bricks, I'll carry them...I've got an actual back seat and a trunk with it's own zip code

16 people found this helpful.
2,255

I can agree with that, if it weren't for other models, the one we own would be that much less to enjoy, like in the mid 2000's when the Mustang was the only one available. The 12 second Mach1 in the video still gets 28 mpg as well.

1,080

you both are correct, I was the owner of a 2010 R/T Challenger and have recently traded it in on a 2013 Mustang 5.0. The Challenger is deff the better looking of the two and way more comfy to drive and has some balls to boot, I got the Mustang for the performance, handling and it is just way more fun to drive... Gas mileage was never a thought in either purchase as I work from home :)

That car looked like it had drag radials on it....throw the stock rubber on it and it doesn't break 13

2,255

It has drag slicks, you're right, with street tires it would never run in the 12"s.

Sort of had to chuckle at Mark's Mach I story. First it was only one mod, which was actually two, cold air and long tube headers. Then we find it has a 4:10 rear, and then we find it was on drag slicks. What else haven't we been told. You can make any car go fast; this discussion was trying to compare generally stock cars. Everyone I know, even the Ford and Chevy die-hards, have said the Challenger wins hands down with styling alone. I had a Mustang and couldn't stand the foot wide center console encroaching on my right leg and the gaping brake handle taking up the rest of the space to my right. Camaro didn't work because I wasn't going to drive a muscle car that had an interior with a quality equal with my Hyundai Accent. I have the best compromise ever. Plenty of room and style, a nice ride, and a very handsome and artful piece of automotive history.

I just read this and was laughing at the Mustang 5.0 fans comment on smoking a Challanger R/T, well here's a first person response I beat hands down a new 5.0 on the street in my 2010 R/T with only a cold air intake as soon as I install my tuner watch out. And mine is way better looking than that common 5.0, every where you look there's at least ten mustangs to one R/T, and it's not cause there better just cheaper.

This guy is either lying, the mustang wasn't a new 5.0, the mustang wasn't trying, or the mustang driver can't drive.

2,255

Exactly, here are the specs: The Mustang GT needs around 30% less space to stop from 60mph, 104 ft vs 142 ft More than 10% faster in the 1/4 mile, 12.7 s @ 111 mph vs 14.3 s @ 102 mph The Mustang GT hits 60mph around 30% faster, 4.4 seconds vs 5.9 seconds

Bluemax, I do agree the Challenger is a cooler looking car, but I have owned both a 2010 R/T and a 2013 5.0 and I can tell you your statement is not true. I have already beat a Charger SRT8 392 in my 5.0. Can you explain how your 4200lb car is faster than a 3600lb car that has 50 more hp? I dont see how it`s possible. My R/T`s best 0-60 time was 4.64 seconds and that was with upgraded rubber. My current best in the Mustang is 4.3 and that is with the stock tires and I still do not have great launching skills with the 6spd yet. No mods at all.

Quick note, Ford and Chevy cars have to supercharge to keep up to the hemi. Put the same supercharger on an srt8 and see what happens..

4 people found this helpful.
375

true huntinthewild, but regardless of how much each manufacturer "ups the ante", the Challenger is heavy, and consequently at a speed disadvantage...mine stands out at the car show, where we are all going the same speed, (zero)...it's the head-turning classic muscle car with the big trunk and back seat with all the women hanging around it.....right next to that row of 100 nondescript, dime-a-dozen Mustangs.

4 people found this helpful.
17,065

Have to supercharge to keep up with the Hemi? Have you never heard about the LS7 from Chevy? Lmfao

3 people found this helpful.
2,255

Duh, the Ford 5.0 & Boss 302 are not supercharged, just the GT 50's 5.8 is supercharged. Unless you call technological advances like 4 valves per cylinder & DOHC supercharging.....

70

This is true Chase, but the branding is off, you don't have to be a car nut to know what a Hemi is and what it means. Let's be honest, if I were to make a car for the drag strip I would scrap the Mustang, Camaro, and the Challenger, as they are all weight wagons that sit too high off the ground. Much less have a barn door on the front. Point is, the Challenger was resurrected from evolutional heaven to once again roam the streets. It is a big car that handles as expected, just like the old muscle cars. However, the mustang never stopped production so it kept evolving...into a sports car. The Camaro isn't far off, but still a sports car. The challenger has the body style and still comes with a stock block from the factory. It's not going to win races, but it definitely wins hearts. I will leave you with one parting question, Justin Bieber, Brittany Spears, and Daniel Craig go shopping for cars. Who buys a Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger, respectively?

Ford Flex.... ok... i have a 2010 EcoBoost Flex. The 3.5 EcoBoost is incredibly detuned from the factory. With just a tune and a little bit of methanol we were able to get about 500 HP out of our Flex. Our Flex has gone 12.7! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMSI0mEyGk4

y'all talkin' about hp AT THE CRANK not AT THE WHEELS. Y'all are also neglecting torque, and more importantly, torque peakes and ecu management. Mustang is notorious for sayin' they have more hp than they really do. For instance, you only get that claimed 420 hp AT THE CRANK from a mustang under very specific conditions. One of those being that you must have premium gas in it, regular drops it down significantly. Like 12 hp significantly. The guys who have been modding challengers say that the hemi is being under-rated by dodge one of the reasons being political because back a couple years ago, the difference between the 5.7 vs. the 6.1 srt didnt justify the price differences, so they devalued the hp AT THE CRANK (Im going to keep that on caps until people pay attention.) Then the 6.4 srt came out with 392 replacing the 6.1. Also, different Dynos have different results. And not just that, but Ive found out lately that most people dont know how to read dynos right at all anyway. I'm a little biased towards the dodge challenger because I drove one (2013 rt) with stock except for CAI, and it ran a 0-60 time of 4.8 seconds, and I had a full tank of gas. It was flat road at about 77 degrees- no moisture. Stock tires. The dodge is severely underated- Id be careful messin' with them challengers. With very few incredably easy mods- they can wreak havok on any unsuspcting person. And stock rt's throw people off too. I drove a 5.0 mustang gt (2013) and it was good, but the torque management system wasnt as good imo. I dont think they got as much hp to the wheels as the challenger rt. It's notoriously not weighted very well (why it gets crushed in gt races in the pros by camaro). But it always comes down to the driver. Ive seen drivers with way worse cars do majestic things against opponants with far better vehicles. So to me its a moot point. Whoever messes up is the loser in these kinds of races. And btw, I only care about drag races 0-60. Because, lets be real; who the hell ever goes to the track to challenge people? nobody. Its always at the light or on the highway. So turning dont mean squat.

Chase you seem some what knowledgeable, but all you have is weight and cost factor. you can look at real time drag times on youtube. you really knock what you dont understand. we are Mopar fans. We drive stuff like 73 Dusters, 73 Darts, 78 Ramcharger, 78 Ram pickup, 68 heavy half pickup and many more mopar stuff i have owned. I even ventured in to Chevy world with 69 Chevelle 70 Chevelle , 78 Z288 Camaro 78 Chevy short box P/U but I have always stayed true to Mopar. I bought my wife a 09 B5 SRT Challenger and would rather push that then drive ford. Oh you talk about your GTO all i see in them is a ford probe with a v8 ugly as sin.

Hey don't get me wrong I like the hemi. I had a 300C. I think the challenger is the best styled muscle car. Performance to cost factor though I think mopar loses though. And today I'm going to pick up a new Camaro SS so the gto is gone. And what made the gto so special to me is performance AND how rare they are. You just don't see them very often.

I have a '09 srt8 and I love it,was looking at the mustang too and thought it was an excellent machine. research showed the mustang was the performance winner but the visual impact of the SRT8 in orange with a 6 speed was too much to overcome, when I want to go fast I play with my 2000 Ducati 748 ,when i want to high speed cruise the Challenger RULES,endless power, outstanding stereo and easy to use nav system,IT IS A BIG CAR-not a sport sized car Kawalski had it right..it is a highway star...if I hit the lottery I will get a mustang to keep it company in the garage but since I have to make the payments I chose the SRT8 Challenger ( in town it can use a 1/8th of a tank in 15 minutes,on the highway it's much more sane.

Ok well srt8 425hp And its 6.1L mustang 5.0l 412 and its not about hp it abot engines the best engine right now its ford, srt its a good and fast car but if we put the gt500 it will bitted so bad

you also have to factor in driver I have a pair 2005 Mustang Gt and a 2011 Boss and my 2005 has some mods not a lot has about the same rear wheel hp than a buddies 2012 challenger Rt both around 405 from Dino and I get him in quarter everything as well in a good old fashion Street race 13 flat to his 13.2 ish not far behind at all, now my super charged boss is different but that's not fair I guess you would say, but I have put it up against the srt8 and did beat a few and lose to a few cause its bone stock as I just got it, but all I all they are all bad ass cars

I have a 2013 challenger blacktop RT and idk about the standard RT challenger but the blacktops with a few little extras such as mine bone stock runs 0 to 60 near 5 flat and a at mile time In middle to low 13s, I personally ran a 13.35 at the track and on the streets I've beat the shit out of mustangs GTs. This one pretty blue mustang GT with custom black wheels and a nice after market hood real nice sound to the exhaust and I whooped his ass he wouldn't even look at me at the next traffic light. So whoever says challengers are slow ok but last time I remember low 13s isn't slow by any means. Everyone has their own preference and opinion and it's cool, my opinion is the challenger RT may be slower than the camaro SS but it's a helluva lot better looking and way less common, the camaro has lost its wow factor and head turning ability it's just another grocery getter cuz there everywhere. As far as the mustang well idc if the mustang has 1000HP it's still a Ford and I like driving my cars not fixing them. Challenger has it all, best vintage American looks out of all 3 by far, most comfortable beautiful to drive unlike the camaro which rides rough and it runs 13s anywhere from high to low depending on what RT and who's driving. The SRT runs 12s and now the new Hellcat runs Damn near 11flat on street tires for around 60 grand. Cheaper than the Shelby much cheaper, cheaper than the new vette cheaper than the big dog zl1 camaro and the Hellcat destroys them all by multiple car lengths. look it up. MOPAR BABY

I own a 2013 mustang base v6 and have beaten 2 challenger r/ts, many 2010 and older mustang GTs, Pontiac G8 GT, 3 new Camaro v6s, a couple charger v6s and one charger rt. The best kill was a d*head who thought his Chally R/T was gonna walk all over my stang----I tried to get him at a stoplight but there was too much traffic in our way, so I chased him out of town about 2 miles where he turned off. He proceeded to jump on it to keep me from passing him but I took him at the highway speed roll. He flashed his lights and I went back to where he was and he had some lame excuse about not shifting right or something-----He basicly dared me to race him from a dead stop & I told him I might surprise him & he just smirked and said lets do it. We lined up he yells "go" and my little sixxer blew his frickin doors off. I smoked him from the line and left him behind multiple car lengths. I let off after I hit 100 and he finally catches up and passes me. Could he beat me on a top end? Quite possible but who cares? 0-60, stoplight to stoplight, 1/4 mile my mustang spanks stock(?) R/Ts. My 3.7 has 305hp from the factory, has exhaust/93 tune and 4.10 gears with 29" rear tires to help with traction. The stock 27s would just spin. oh and I don't think my v6 mustang is the fastest thing out there either. I'm pretty sure there are cars out there that cost 1/3 of what mine did that will beat me. In fact I know it cause I got whooped by a 97-00 firebird that was highly modified.

You didn't read anything anybody posted ahead of you I guess. I've never seen a or heard of an unmodified v6 mustang beating anything unless the other person didn't know it was racing. It's not fast, and if it was, it would already be known by everybody. But its not. Because its not. You probably raced the worst drivers known to mankind if any of that was true. They just dont have the torque or hp (and it's still heavy) to compete with any recent v8. Your 305 hp is at the crank, not the wheels. You're probably putting down a whole lot less than you think. You sound like a little kid. What's your 0-60 time? Nevermind, I looked it up and its 5.8, which isn't horrible, but it's not in Mustang GT or Challenger RT territory either. I got 4.8 on stock tires and unmodified challenger r/t on a straight, flat road without much practice. Since then Ive changed the wheels and tires and noticed a big improvement. Definitely believe I could get into 4.7 territory. I'lll take you on any time.

(correction) Looking more into it, I see 2013 v-6's doing consistantly 5.2- 5.5 seconds. Still not close enough though.

yeah, tbh the best mustang they made was the 5.0 back in the day, and that is the only mustang i appreciate. if you seen how many mustangs have been on the side of the road.. compared to how many challengers..? OH WAIT none! because the mustang is not built to spec as the challenger, and thats been true since the beginning. the only thing making the challenger slower is the weight and space of it. i rather have the look of the challenger with paying more for a more powerful car and having loads more space hands down, and you can not deny that it is. You know how much torque and hp it has. haha and to think you will have a more unique car anyways. and tbh though, about the breaking down thing. its sad cause i see about 1 or 2 mustangs broken down every day i go out or driving on the highway it might be more. :p thats where the price difference also comes in.. Quality assurance. :)

IMO u are all correct i n certain ways but the cake topper has to go to the 1970 dodge charger supercharged its specs are as follows Car Specs: Model: 1969/1970 Dodge Charger R/ T 0-100 Km/h: "Unknown" Top speed: "Unknown" Quarter mile: 9 Seconds flat (shown in movie) Engine: Supercharged Chrysler 426 Hemi V-8 Power: 900 BHP Wheel Drive: Rear Wheel Drive Performance extra's: Supercharged with BDS 9-71 Roots-style blower Body kit: "Original" Color: Black (from Metallic to Matt) Wheels/Tires: Continental Sport Contact Rims: Front size- 18-by-8.0 inches, Rear size- 18-by-9.5 inches so again IMO I think this is the bread winner

A four door, five passenger Dodge Charger is NOT in the same catagory as a TWO-door MUSTANG, or CAMERO! Mustang and Camero homosexual fanboys are CLEARLY pissing their pants at the thought that a Dodge CHARGER might beat their acceleration!!!! I pull up alongside Mustangs and Cameros EVERYDAY and they ALWAYS "go easy" on the pedal because they are so scared of the Dodge Charger! How much more hilarious can it be???? My Dodge Charger SXT has done 5.9 seconds 0-60....which ain't too bad, and apparently makes non-Charger drivers piss their pants....God only knows what a 6.4 Hemi V8 would do!

There is NO WAY any1970 era Muscle car did a 9 second 1/4 mile! What a bunch of horse shit! The upcoming Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat with 707 horsepower is rated for11 second 1/4 mile times with street tires... There is NO WAY anything built in the 1970's did the "quarter" in less than 11 seconds! I'm talking street cars of course....even PRO-STOCK dragsters find 11 second 1/4 mile times respectable!

20

I find that MOST Mustang and Camero drivers take it WEAK when they see a Dodge ANYTHING sitting beside them! A Dodge Charger or Challenger V6 can accelerate to the point of embarassment for 3 year or older V-8 Mustangs, Cameros, and even Challengers/Chargers! A Camero RS V8 MIGHT beat a four-door, five passenger Dodge Charger off the line....then again, the Charger SXT Plus with 8 speed tranny has AMAZING acceleration! Regardless of what you've read, the 2014 Dodge Charger SXT is FAST off the line! The RT is unbeatable!

I have 1970 mach 1 that runs 10.70 on the street. I laugh at these posts. Guys arguing over 14 second cars. I eat new Camaros, Mustangs and Chargers every weekend I take my car out. Most of the time its not even worth wasting my fuel....

well you must have modified the hell out of it because stock 1970 Mach 1s were nowhere near that time.

I just bought a 2014 Challenger R/T with the 5.7 V8 Hemi straight drive (why buy a Muscle car and have Automatic) I was originally set on getting a but soon as I looked at the Challengers I was sold! It's kinda like guys that talk about how good their rifles will shoot, they all are at least 1MOA and usually better but 1MOA is hard to do off a bench with a great shooting rifle! Guys think a 5 sec. or more 0-60 time sounds slow and decide no way their car can't beat a 5 sec 0-60 and times shrink. I'm by no means saying that some of you guys aren't doing those times but bet ya they all aren't, at least with their stock Mustangs and Challengers! I have never had a fast Muscle or sports car, until last week and with my Stock Challenger with my newbie minimal driving skills did a 5.6 sec 0-60 on I think my 4th try, my biggest problem was not spinning my tires at the start, anyway that shows they are faster than what the magazine reviews show. The Challenger IMHO by far is the better chose coolness factor and space and comfortable ride as well as top end speed over the Mustang, plus it 's got a fricken HEMI! One newbie question, does it hurt your engine to do the 0-60 speed runs before the 500 mile factory recommended break in period is completed? Mine only had about 230 miles on it when I did it, but I have squealed the tires on more than several occasions in the first 3 gears since I bought it and it had about 96 miles on it when I got it. TIA

I'm reading this and laughing my ass off!! I have a 13 R/T. Before I modded it there was no way I could have shifted to 60 in 5.9!!! Take a second off for my SLOWEST 0-60!! And it is EVERYTIME I can go that fast, Challenger owners know what I'm saying; it's nearly impossible to NOT floor it everytime you move that car be it a block or a haul. My cop neighbor had a 5.slow, 2012. Strong first gear and a planted launch; but about as kittenish as they come. Talked to him yesterday briefly while bringing the trash cans to the curb... He mentioned how he got confirmation for his Hellcat purchase lotto number... Mustang fever for ya

I did 5.14 last night on my second 0-60, that was with traction control on, I spun the wheels more hitting second gear than I did first gear. Slow is definitely faster!

10

2014 challenger R/T you have to get into the gas very easy. Don't spin the tires. I run a 4.70 without traction control. Premium gas chip reprogram an a K&H cold air intake. Before mods my bet time was 5.17

I recently bought a used 2012 RT and I am in LOVE withi it. Just put a K&N CAI. So far I've only been beat once redlight to redlight and it was by a Lamborghini Diablo. I knew it was no chance but sometimes you just have to go. I eat up all camaros and mustangs that will try me. I love to go" hunting" for all the boys in there new toys and I've learned that from a 50 mph romp the other toys don't stand a chance. Going to remove cats and install long tube headers so everybody beware of my plain white R/T cause I'll be hunting for you.

idiots everywhere. Mach 1's dip below 13's with 4.10 gears, solid tires and minor bolt on's. People claiming the Mach 1 is a dog must be comparing it to an LS1 motor. LS1 cars will lose the jump and can take a Mach 1 by eighth mile... but a Mach 1 (5 speed) will beat an RT Challenger. sorry to break it to you, and i am a Mopar guy that just so happens to own a 2004 Mach 1 with Xpipes and 4.10 gears. Only challenger that beat me so far has been the new 392 scat pack... tough break

All I know is I just bought a 2012 5.7L hemi challenger about a month ago and it's a manual. The stock car did 0-60 in 5.7 sec. So far but I'm new to a stick shift it only has 30,000 miles on it and I love it regardless of numbers I love my car and have confidence that it can hold its own on the road it's just about what you personally like a true car enthusiast can make a pinto beat a cobra like he said before just do what you love and race that is all lol

I recently got a 2016 372 hp challenger bone stock I did a 6.7 0-60, took it to my local muff shop, did a muff delete and took it out and did a 6.0. I'm 71 years old and have drag raced most of my adult life. As they say this is probably the most fun that I have had doing something like this. Am I pro mopar, HELL YES!!! I neglected to say that my challenger is a SHAKER model and seriously turns some heads.

Well All I can say is I have a 2012 5.7 with a lot of suspension, engine and computer modifications. Pushing 575 horsepower. I have torn up everything on the street from SRT Challengers to Saleen Mustangs. I beat a late model Cobra the other day so bad it was embarrassing. I had a kid in a Subaru try me the other day. I let him take off probably five car lengths before me and waxed the shiz out of him. Sorry but Challenger rules my friends!

Ridiculous. I have a 2017 R/T that goes a hell of a lot faster than 5.9 seconds. I do not know what Challenger R/T this guy was driving, however, 150mph as a stock car, is pretty decent. Comparing a R/T to a Camry, is like cimparing VW bug to a Ferrari.

2 people found this helpful.

I bought a 2013 Challenger R/T Blacktop with the 5.7 hemi, I loved it except for the 5.7 hemi "tick". I happened online a 2012 SRT 392 for sale at a decent price. Drove to West Va. in my R/T and the moment I took the 392 out I knew the huge difference in power. I traded and gave money to boot on her but I've never regretted it cause I don't have to listen to that ticking anymore and love driving her. No other car as far as looks comes close to the Challenger and I'm not looking to race it. It's so cool to just drive and get the thumbs up from people.

Ok here is a big question for you I got a B5 Blue Pearl Coat 5.7 Dodge Challenger R/T Plus after 20 years what would it be worth

10

I see everyone talking 5's and 6's.... Third time i ran my 0-60 i was at 4.7... the one time i saw a 5, i left the timer on going up hill

1 people found this helpful.

Why haven't the Dodge challenger rt gained any hp in 9+ years? That seems ridiculous!

10

My 2011 Challenger SRT 392 is rated at 470/470. At a local Tech school dyno it only came up with 400.9 hp/411.5 lb/ft to the ground. From the factory on it's original tires and air filter it ran an 8.04 et in the 1/8th mile. With my wife in the car lecturing me I waxed a new Mustang w/ Coyote engine. It wasn't a close race. Nice guy who gave me the thumbs up when we stopped at a light. In comparison, my A12 only ran an 8.50 with the original bias ply tires.

1 people found this helpful.

I ran a 5.7 on my third try. I have run a 5.9. that happens when you spin the wheels too much. My car is on 245 45 20 uniroyal.tiger paws with muffler delete and no other mods .I am now 50 years old my car is an automatic. I don't know how much like longer I'm gonna keep driving fast cars for but my next car will either be a. 2015 challenger Challenger rt srt or hellcat. Or it might be something else. Who knows. Alls you all HAve fun cause life ain't forever.
