Check engine light on my 2004 dodge ram 1500- PO301

Asked by Emckee55 Dec 16, 2012 at 04:35 PM about the Dodge RAM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My check engine light on my 2004 dodge ram 1500 keeps coming on. I hooked up my carmd and I'm getting a code
of PO301. I've taken it in to a local mechanic and the dealer and they said the truck is not misfiring. They've checked
out the truck and nothing appears to be wrong. We tried putting in some dry gas but within 24 hours the light was
back on. They've mentioned possible water in the fuel but how would we know and how should that be treated.
Each time the shop has been able to get the light to go off, but within a few days the light is back. Any help would be
greatly appreciated!

P0300 is a misfire in any cylinder. P0301 is a misfire in cylinder #1. Check out the spark plug, wire and coil. If everything seems in order, spray WD40 around the intake gasket to see if it's sucking air. The RPM's will increase if it's leaking.

Normally with that code ,it needs one coil replaced, also change the plug while you are in there , erase the code, drive it, the shop you are taking it to, is only erasing it ,if it doesnt get fixed it will come back on.

I had the same problem, p0301 coming on. Took it to the dealer. They replaced spark plugs. A few weeks later the light came back on. I did all the research on the web. I had identified based on all the info on the Internet. I had to smog, and it failed. P0301 and p0300 codes. I had the mechanic run a computer diagnostic. All appeared to be fine, with the exception of a p0301 at 59 miles per hour. I asked for a compression check. All cylinders were 160 psi. While doing the compression test, he found that the spark plug in cylinder 1 was broken. He replaced the plugs again, and that solved the problem.
