Hi cat2, There's no real information of what this light could be. I'd suggest that it might be an ambient light source to light the interior of the vehicle (the same color as the dash lighting). Hope this helps!

Wow I just bought a 2008 CX7 and came to ask this question. Fifteen years later and still nobody has answered this question definitively bc it’s definitely NOT ambient lighting or a “map light”. How incredibly disappointing.
