Your $7E8 and the $7E9 are fuel/ air intake codes, as for the P1326 Ok, this code is set when the knock sensor detects vibrations from engine rod knock, however, it may be set falsely due to incorrect knock sensor logic programming in the engine control module. So, the first step is to determine if there is an actual engine rod knock, which if confirmed, means engine will need a lower end rebuild. so try to clear the code, start it and listen for rod knock, you hear nothing give it a little gas, still nothing, drive it carefully for a couple miles still nothing and it still not knocking,, drive it, keep an eye on that service engine light or check engine light, if it comes back on check the codes, if it give you all the same codes, I would start with the fuel system first, heres why, if your not getting enough fuel or too much fuel your engine is going to hesitate or "buck" which will cause the knock sensor to think theres a knock, I'm sure you've heard of engine ping, the knock sensor may just be sensitive enuff to interpret that as a knock, check injectors first, but I would buy a code reader that can tell you exactly what the codes are, like autozone can pull the codes and tell you the codes are $7E8 and $7E9 but some code readers will tell you $7E8 is fuel too lean bank 1 or may even tell you which cylinder, I bought mine at Harbor Freight for $89 and it came with a disc and a book with codes in it. first thing to do is find out exactly what the codes are for, clear the codes and start from scratch.

Did some more research and it did end being the knock sensor. Kia has recall / extended warranty on the motor for this reason. Car will be getting a new motor covered by Kia!
there ya go...I didnt know about the recall but I have seen this before, I am 58 years old and have been a mechanic for 46 years, went to school at an early age, own my own shop and continue to work on them...hope they get it right for you.
2017 Hyundai Sonata. Induced p1326 limp mode. Cause attempted hard acceleration at 55mph upgrade auto stick in 6th gear
Stonehand, what did you do to fix it? I just had the same thing happen to my 2017 Kia Sorento. Had curse control on and it down shifted going up a hill at 55MPH. RPM went up than down than up and the engine check light came on. I now can't go up a hill very well and have limited power.
I bought my 2011 Sonata in April this year with about 50 kmiles. I soon after I got a recall notice from Hyundai that if the car beeped and went into limp mode to take it to the dealer. The engine passed the noise test so they abandoned the wire cable to the knock sensor and replaced it with a bypass one. I drove it since for 1500 miles with no problem until last evening. I drove it about 20 miles to town and the engine light was flashing and then stumbled and went into limp mode. went we went to dinner and when I started the engine after dinner the engine light was off, so drove home. Just turned in the driveway and the engine light started flashing again . I checked the code with my OBD meter and got $7E8, $7E9 and the p1326. The last code listed, was on the repair bill. Hyundai had extended the warranty to 10 years and 125,000 miles, whichever came first. I'm still covered. I think this time it's con rods. My thinking is that the oil became thinner as the engine heated up. Will know next week., AlanR

Hello my problem is 07E8 and 07E9 ?
Thank you so much for this. I am a newbie and was really confused that I couldn't find out what $7e8 engine problem code was. Now I know that the problem codes for engine begin with P. Mine was P118B and found out that there might be a service bulletin on my 2018 GMC for that problem. Thank you again for the help!
