Exhaust Manifold Glowing Red

Asked by Joshua Jun 30, 2020 at 11:11 PM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had the exhaust manifold gaskets and bolts
replaced on my 96 ford engine RV and after the
maintenance was completed the manifold starting
glowing bright red, and a terrible burning smell.
Something blocked? Spark plug wires?

Either your engine is running super rich or misfiring (dumping unburnt fuel mixture into exhaust) or you have a blockage in the exhaust (like a plugged catalytic converter). Any performance issues like hesitation, misfiring, OBD codes?

I don’t have a reader for the codes but the check engine light is on. There are no catalytic converters which kind of surprised me. I am having trouble building up speed and it sounds like it is misfiring when driving.
