6.0 diesel f350 06 long crank before starting

Truck periodically takes a little longer than normal
to start  long crank then fires and about 5 to
6seconds is this normal I've had people tell me to
upgrade the tcm?

Probably referring to the fuel injection control module (FICM). Diagnosis is best left to a qualified diesel mechanic as throwing parts at diesel problems is costly and foolish.
