What is wrong with my 86 ranger?

Everytime I am driving my ranger it starts
sputtering and tries to die. It is an 86 with a five
speed v6. Whenever I turn the key off and back on
it starts running fine. Since it is a standard it will
not completely die does anyone know why it is
doing that
