How do I get a temporary license plate for a car I purchase out of state?

If I buy a car from a private owner in NC and I live in VA how do I obtain license
plates for legally driving home to my state?

You'll have to obtain an in transit license plate, check with the VA DMV.

You can also take your paperwork to your local DMV, get your new license plates, then go get the vehicle and drive it home on your new license plates. Hope that helps! Jim
