That depends on the DMV. The last motorcycle I bought out of state I picked it up in a trailer and took it home then had the inspection done in my home state to get license and title in my home state. Now if your wanting to ride it home you may need trip permits as you travel from state to state.

You will pay the fees, including any sales tax, to your home State of Ohio only. Ohio will then send any sales tax due to Illinois. You won't be bothered with that. To drive your new motorcycle home, if that's what you're planning, it will have to be insured before you pick it up. When you do pick it up you will receive a temporary license plate which will serve as your temporary registration too. This will cost you a few dollars when you pick up the bike. Hope that helps!
