Can I obtain a loan from Car Guru for a repo
My car was repossessed by a credit union. Can I
obtain car financing to get the car back. The
credit union suggested I get a loan from another
institution and pay off the balance to them to get
my car back. 2017 Honda Civic LX. Estimated
cost 13,000 dollars

Cargurus is an advertising site only. Similar to Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc. They don't offer financing. In my opinion the best thing to do is walk away from this. With the repossession on your credit report it's going to be nearly impossible to get a loan to pay for the first loan. Remember, the finance company, in this case, your credit union just wants the money. Nothing else. What is going to happen now is the vehicle will be sold at auction. Whatever the vehicle sells for will be deducted from the amount you owe. You can, at that point, negotiate with the credit union, repayment terms for the remaining balance. If they refuse to negotiate with you, fine, let them take you to court and a judge will decide the repayment terms. On the other hand, if the vehicle sells at auction for more than you owe on it, the debt is paid for and you will get a check from the credit union for the excess amount. Whatever you do, DO NOT pay the credit union any more money until the vehicle is sold and you've reached a repayment agreement, in writing, if it sells for less than what you owe on it! Also, do not communicate with the credit union until after the vehicle is sold. Ignore their phone calls and letters until you get a statement from them saying the vehicle has been sold and for how much. As part of the repayment agreement you want the repossession removed from your credit report once the debt is paid too! If they won't do that, fine, just dispute it with the credit reporting agencies after the debt is paid. Jim
