Buying A Car From Out Of State?

Question type: General

What are some of the considerations for buying a car from an out of state dealer? Is registration more difficult when I bring it home? More costly?

Obviously it'll be more costly, you have to transport the car or drive it home, and depending on your home state most likely it will require a VIN inspection before a title will be issued. In my state that was an additional $5 and only took a few minutes. The hassle isn't registration but transferring the title. Be SURE to have a bill of sale in addition to the notarized title. Once you have the title transferred registration is the same. Check DMV.org or your state's registrars web site for specifics. The only real caveat to buying out of state is trusting the seller and hauling the new car home.
