Camshaft Question

You can run the converter but it's not going to last long most likely. And what's wrong with going into nuetral when you stop? That's what torque converters are designed to do in order to keep you from killing your engine like you do when you let the clutch out of a standard and don't give it gas. The stock converter currently does that when you're at a complete stop. The reason it says to use a 2000+ stall is because anything less will most likely be torn up by the extra power. Replacing a torque converter is not cheap. especially since most times a converter goes out it flings debris throughout the rest of the transmission. You blow a stock converter and you may be looking at needing to buy an entire new tranny. I would not take the risk if I were you.

Okay, i will take your advice. i just dont want to have to bring the engine up to 2000 rpm for me to be able to get goin because i still want to get as much fuel efficiency as i can get.

In town there's not going to be a lot you can do to get fuel efficiency. and actually you'll be starting out in your powerband anyway so I don't think it's going to have a big effect on your fuel mileage. Make absolutely sure it's a lock up converter though because that's what gives you maximum efficiency on the highway. even with the stall on there you should still be fine on fuel. I have a supercharged V6 and in town I spend most of my time above 2000 RPM and i do just fine. In town it's not so much the RPMs you're turning as much as it is how much you're pushing the gas pedal. you want to stay in your power band which 2000-3000 is for the 350. over that you're wasting gas and under that you're wasting gas because you're too low in the current gear and the engine is having to work harder. Make sense?

with a 2000 stall converter there shouldn't be any problems leaving a light a stock converter is generally a 1500 stall but its stock so it isnt considered a stall and talking about camming your truck and good gas limeage usually dont end up in the same conversation lol
