Chevy 454 RPM

I'm looking at a 1986 motorhome with a Chevy 454 in it.  It was over 5,000
RPM at 60 MPH, not towing anything or heavily loaded.  The seller said this
was not a concern, but it seems quite high to me.

5,000 rpm at 60 means it was probably stuck in a lower gear. or slipping badly Not normal!!!

Well that guy is totally wrong obviously doesn't want to motorhome that only has a 3 speed trans from 1986 motorhomes will have higher RPM since you do not have an overdrive gear

These old motor homes were beasts in the payload and total load maximums. With factory turbo 350's and beefier oft substituted 400's of only 3 speeds and payload/tow loads the selling feature Dwane is likely correct here. I believe the 16,000kg GVWR rated 12" dually rear axle was a 4.10 ratio. A work-around was either an electric OD (most practical) but most would put a modified 700R4 in with additional cooling (most expensive). Personally I do not see our ancestors as wrong using the solenoid OD box and choice is good.
