No start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a 2004 Cadillac DeVille from a
friend and he had purchased it from
an auction.  It wouldn't start and
needed a new starter so we replaced it
as well as put the battery on a slow
charged for 24 hours and battery is
good. If you remove the starter relay
and do a jump start it tried to turn over
but won't.  When you try starting it
with the key it won't do anything. I
believe the only keys that came with
car is the valet key and a plain silver
GM key for the car.  We do not have a
key fob. Could problem be in the key
itself , or a ground issue?  Seems like
issue is with ignition not.sending
power to starter so so frustrated ,& I
need a car and desperately need to get
this car up & running ASAP!!

Have a Cadillac dealer or auto locksmith make you a new key with a transponder chip in it and have it cut and programmed to the car as a start. You should have more than a valet key and a door key from the sound of it. No need for a fob at this point unless you want one.

I'm told that's very expensive and I'm hoping for a more affordable way. The previous owner drove the car with the same.key he gave me when he sold it to me. It worked for him. When it wouldn't start for him he knew it was the starter but as I said we've replaced it and made sure to test it prior to replacing . He drove the car with the same key I have for approx 2 to 3 months with no problem only thing he did was buy a new battery for the car.
