80''s model Cadillac

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 80's model Cadillac and I would like to know if I
remove the fuel relay will it not run?
I have a 94 Tahoe and I can just move the distributor cap a
little and Bam you ain't going nowhere.
I'm asking because the boyfriend keeps taking off for days
at a time in my rides, instead of his junk...
I've never owned a Cadillac I'm a truck girl myself, just want
peace of mind when I go to sleep he's not taking my ride.
Thanks in advance

Absolutely! If you remove the fuel pump relay the engine will start and run for a few seconds then die and not restart until the relay is replaced. Removing the relay disables the fuel pump. There will still be some pressurized fuel in the fuel lines that will allow the engine to run but only for a few seconds. After you put the relay back in, if the engine has been run those few seconds, prime the fuel system by turning the ignition to the run position for about 5 seconds. Turn it back off then start the engine. Doing that will prevent excessive cranking after the engine has been run out of gas. No harm will be done to the fuel pump or anything else. Very NICE Brougham, BTW!! Looks like a 1990 model? I love those older Cadillacs! I have a '94 Fleetwood. Hope that helps!! Jim
