does the 2009 shelby gt500 and gt500 super snake have the same engine. I understand the supersnake has a different supercharger, gauges, signed by shelby, body kit, and a few little changes
I am trying to understand the absolute differences between a 2009 gt500 and
a gt500 supersnake. i know they do full conversions and all but i want to do it
my self and make it into a supersnake and wanted to know if the engine and
transmission is the same as on a supersnake (of the same year)
Best bet is to join the Shelby American Automobile Club (SCCA) , headquartered in Las Vegas, for more information . Not trying to discourage you, but I would never attempt to modify my GT500 . Some reputable tuner guys can do it , but the best people to go to are the Shelby American factory in Vegas - they work hand-in-hand with Ford SVT and engineer it to run to it's full potential without creating engine problems. They may be able to recommend an approved shop in your area to make the modifications. Check out their website. What I know is that a SuperSnake has the same 5.4L engine but has a higher compression super charger than a GT500 and the engine control computer is "tuned" to work with this specific supercharger. Good luck ! Not a project for the novice as you can create more problems than the changes are worth - and your "cloned" SuperSnake will not have the $ value of the real deal.
Michael, When a Shelby receives a Super Snake Package it includes a variety of upgrades to include but not limited to: - Interior upholstery, Pillar Gauges - Wheels & Brakes - Suspension - Engine: By way of a larger Blower(Supercharger), Throttle Body, MAI & intercooler. (Bolt-on Upgrades Only). That being said “Does Not” include any other notable modifications to the stock engine. Car still Retains Stock Cams, Heads & Short Block which is fine for this HP Level. The prior Super Snake upgrade for the 2007-2012 model years was by way of either a 2.8KB or 2.9 Whipple blower which was stated to make 750 ‘crank’ HP (645ish WHP) and the 2013-14 model years used either a 3.6KB or 4.0L Whipple which was stated to make 850 crank HP (710ish WHP). Recently I ‘believe’ Shelby has used the larger blowers for all Super Snake PKG from 2007-2014. The knowledge I have to state the above is from having a 2011 Shelby that has firstly gone through the first stage(2.9L Whipple). Then was upgraded to high lift cams, fuel system, headers, ignition, methanol Inj. For pump gas and nitrous(never used after dialed in on Dyno) for race fuel tune. The 5.4L Alum block was then replaced with a 5.8L Race Block W/4.0L Whipple and a 3rd set of cams that worked better with this combination. Hope the above info helps!
