What does it mean when you accelerate and your car does not move???

Asked by Domineke Jan 19, 2015 at 04:10 PM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I put my car in drive or reverse
and press the gas to accelerate the
car does not move. When the car is
in drive or reverse it makes a
humming sound without me pressing
on the gas. I have checked the
transmission fluid and the fluids are
where they need to be. Also when I
put move from gear to gear I feel no
hesitation or resistance. The
temperatures where I live have been
very very low it's been less than 20° .

I would expect a transmission issue, could be electrical possibly, but i have only owned old subarus. If you take it in, expect something either stupidly simple or something big and expensive.
