I doubt you can hear any slack in the belt but at 197,000 miles you are way over due for a new belt. I would suggest a complete kit like this one --- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lexus-IS300-GS300- Complete-Timing-Belt-Water-Pump-Kit-/180682670474? fits=Make%3ALexus%7CModel%3AIS300&hash=item2a1186c18a: g:fFkAAOSwU9xURYvT&vxp=mtr
Hiya FoR. I agree, greg, if it has never been changed you are on way borrowed time.
The good news it's a non-interference engine
That has to be rare in a twin cam engine.
I was surprised too. But multiple sources all agree
I personally would NOT buy ANY important engine parts on E-bay. I would either buy Lexus dealer parts or get them from a well known parts store such as NAPA, O'Reillys etc. If an important critical engine part fails and you bought it on E-Bay, you will be stuck with any and all costs related to the failure. Just saying.....
