Post a better photo, that one is not so good.
Take a photo from the other side, like inline with the driveshaft from the rear.
it doesnt look like it, from the other photo there is a bracket on the back of it.
I wonder if it is some sort of carrier bearing. Pretty sure it was not on a Factory Lincoln, but when I get to work I'll take a look in the parts catalog.
I've watched several videos of 1988 Lincolns where they show the undercarriage, the part is there...Thanks for checking!
Found it, sorry about forgetting to look it up. It is a weight that hangs off of the back of the transmission to dampen vibrations. Ford calls it a damper. Vehicle will operate fine without it, but it may or may not have some odd vibrations.
