Legal Question on Dealer Pricing

Asked by Andrew Aug 26, 2019 at 02:48 PM

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

A dealer listed a price for a vehicle for sale at a particular price and there were
no preconditions regarding that price listed on car gurus.  I tried to purchase the
car for cash at that price and was told by the dealership that I would have to
finance the vehicle to get that price.  Is this legal in Louisiana.

Car dealers get kickbacks from the banks if you finance through them. A cash deal they make no extra money nor commission for the finance staff. If you are getting a better deal to finance, run the numbers. Usually you have to keep the loan for a few months before you can pay it off. So if you get $1500 off and pay only $300 in finance for those three months, your $1200 ahead.

I have been high pressured to take a loan at the dealer. Rather than argue with the azzholes I took the loan and paid it off the next day. They were pissed but revenge is sweet.
