not sure about the laws in your area, but around here it has to be welded or it wont pass inspection, but other then that rivets could work, wont be as sturdy or last nearly as long as welding.... it would be best to get someone to weld it up for you, then it will last as long as the rest of the car
You can drill and rivet a patch piece but it isn't recommended. There is a tremendous amount of flexing in a floor panel. Any unwelded joint will eventually begin to make noise, and then come apart. If you can get the car to a muffler shop or body shop, let them tack it in place at least. If you absolutely INSIST on doing this without welding, use an industrial steel adhesive like Norton (NOR4615) http://www.tooltopia.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=43594&utm_source=nextag&utm_medium=cse&utm_term=4615&utm_campaign=nextag_18 Again, it is not recommended but you will have a fighting chance. Go to Ames Performance, PerformanceYears, or YearOne and get a patch panel, don't even try to make one up yourself unless it's a very small piece. http://www.amesperf.com/ http://www.performanceyears.com/ http://www.yearone.com/ After the part is in place, give all the joints and bare surfaces a coat of POR15, and make sure the underside is undercoated as well. The modern steel panels are not as durable as the original floor panels. Good luck!
